Aterlier B’ Architectes. Jordi Bellmunt-Agata Buscemi. A pleasent journey. Projects for a different mobility
Design workshop. Milan, October 16th – 20th, 2013
Technological breakthroughs of mechanical transportation have affected the dynamics through which the landscape is perceived, opening it to new and different aesthetic representations, highlighted in the experiences of the artistic avant-garde of the twentieth century. Nowadays we are almost excessively used to crossing landscapes sitting in comfortable trains or cars, perceiving them only superficially as a quick and rapid sequence of fleeting and evocative images, backdrops to our journeys. But every situation requires a specific time for perception and understanding: this has been taught to us by literature and art that describe the experience of places as a personal or collective discovery independent from the time and means through which it happens. For these reasons, avoiding the use of the high-energy use transportations is not only an environmental requirement. Through the design of a diversified mobility in the territory, be it through ancient or modern transportation, it is possible to rethink the mode of fruition, the “staging” of entire landscapes, but also to allow the recovery of an experience which is more sensitive to the perception and interpretation of places, which could reintroduce the natural subjective dimension of the relationship with the world.
